Vietnam
Climate
The climate of Vietnam has a monsoon regiem. The northern part of Vietnam is marked by four seasons (spring, summer, autumn and winter), whereas the southern part is marked by two seasons (a dry one and a rainy one). The temperature in the North (minimium 7 °C, maximum 37 °C) varies much more than in the South. There the average temperature is around 28 °C.
Geography
Vietnam is very diverse in topography. There are two plains: in the Northern part and in the southern part. In the central part of Vietnam there is a long mountainous rank along the country and a high land. Soils are also very diverse: sandy soil, sandy loam, clay soil, salty soil, acid sulphate soil. Fertile soils occur both in the northern and southern parts of the country and along the two large rivers, Red and Mekong rivers.
Horticulture
All aspects of horticulture can be found in Vietnam: tropical and subtropical fruit growing, flower culture, vegetable production in the open in high land.
Distribution of Horticulture
Tropical fruit trees, mainly mango, pineapple, litchi, longan, and banana, are concentrated in the northern and southern parts of Vietnam. Flower cultures are concentrated in the central high land on podzolic soils. Mushroom growing is practiced in the plains of the northern and southern part of Vietnam.

The research thrusts are the Ministry of Agriculture, Agricultural Universities and the Scientific Institute of Vietnam.
