Organisational Structure
The university is organized under the Federal Government.
The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences has a farm at her disposal. The Faculty Farm extends over an area of approximately 40 hectares situated on the Al Ain-Dubai highway, two kilometers North of Al Oha town. The centre is approximately 300 m above sea level and surrounded by a linear acolian subsystem comprising parallel and subparallel linear and dunes. The Centre was established in 1986, to provide a model of an integrated farming system that offers research, teaching, training and extension education on agricultural topics of local and regional relevance. Special attention is given to the problem of agricultural production in arid and semi-arid areas. Those include the study of sand dune movement and the different biological and civil engineering means to reduce it and minimize its role in desertification. Attention is also given to the study of crop production under the prevailing environmental stress conditions such as the lack of rain and its improper intensity and distribution, low fertility calcareous soils, limited and high salinity irrigation water, and severe weather conditions including high wind velocity, temperature and solar radiation. The Center also focuses on the problems of animal production and the ways and means to increase its productivity. Special attention is given to increase productive and reproductive performance of different livestock species through genetic improvement and the development of managerial practices of reduce the adverse effects of the prevailing stressful environmental conditions.
