Organisational Structure
The Department is organised in numerous chairs conducting teaching and research in scientific disciplines dealing with the abiotic and biotic components of agroecosystems, agrotechnologies, agroeconomy and rural development. Teaching is done on undergraduate (four-year and three-year studies) and postgraduate level (specialisation, master's degree and doctor's degree)
Research Programs
Research activities are organised within centres and institutes and three special units, the Laboratory field in Ljubljana, the Nut Crop Centre in Maribor and the Ampelographic Collection Vineyard in Nova Gorica. It is divided into five spheres: the first deals with the problems of rural areas, the research of soil, weather, climate, land use, land consolidation, amelioration, irrigation, fertilisation and its impact on plant physiology; the second with that of botany, genetics, plant breeding, plant biotechnology; the third with technological research in crop production, grassland and fodder production, fruit-growing, viticulture, horticulture and vegetable-growing, including farm mechanisation; the fourth with plant diseases and pests, and the fifth with research in rural economics.
